10K Race And Day 65

Big day today. Started with the Fremantle Fun Run 10km Race. I was aiming to do it in 1 hour. I ended up doing it in 57:44, so I’m very happy.

The race was at 8am today, so I did my 90 day challenge run in the evening.

Ended up doing 4.46 km in the 30 minutes at an average pace of 6:44 mins/km, average heart rate of 150 bpm.

Notice anything unusual about those stats? Today was 6:44 average at 150 bpm after running a 10K race, but yesterday was 7:23 average at 149 bpm. Yeah, that’s weird.

Even stranger was my heart rate in the race. With a constant pace between 5:30 and 5:50, my heart rate went down from around 175 bpm at the 2 km mark to hanging out around 125 bpm at the 7 km mark. What the?! It was a very slow decline to that point, with periods of higher, but around 7 km I stepped up my effort and it went back up for a while, falling before the end (as I tried to figure out whether the 9 km marker was in the wrong place, given it was at 9.5 km or whether I really did have 1 more km to go). I finished at around 4 minute pace with a heart rate of 155 bpm! Very strange.
