Run Challenge Day 35… In Melbourne

So. I’m in Melbourne. Other side of the country, 2,700 km away from home as the crow flies.

It was the major surprise organised for my birthday by Cat and contributed to by all my family.

I’m also signed up for the Melbourne Half Marathon (which I found out yesterday) and tomorrow I’ll be driving a Lamborghini & a Ferrari!

So today’s run was past the MCG, down the banks of the Yarra River to the Melbourne Aquarium, then back through the streets of Melbourne. Pretty cool way to experience the city. It’s the third time I’ve been here & this gave me a new perspective on it.

I ended up doing 4.03 km in the 30 minutes at an average pace of 7:27 mins/km, average heart rate of 150 bpm. I would’ve gone faster except for the crowds, traffic lights and stairs.

Followed it up straight away with a 30 minute run of 3.77 km at an average pace of 7:57 mins/km, average heart rate of 151 bpm.

I wanted to get in a few extra kms before the half marathon which is the day after tomorrow. I’m planning running the first 15 km at or under 152 bpm heart rate, then seeing how I feel. Today’s run of 7.8 km is the furthest I’ve run since my marathon in late August (maybe there was a 10 km in there somewhere), so I don’t know for sure how I’ll go. Guess we’ll find out in 2 days 🙂
